A surface trough extending across the northern Gulf will continue to drift northward overnight and weaken. Scatterometer data and surface obs indicate moderate to fresh converging winds along the boundary, and satellite imagery shows scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern Gulf associated with the feature. Elsewhere, high pressure extends from the central Atlantic into the west central Gulf, supporting moderate east to southeast winds in the southern and western Gulf, and gentle winds over the east-central Gulf with seas of 2 to 3 ft. A diurnal trough will develop over the Yucatan Peninsula each evening, move W during the overnight hours dissipating over the SW Gulf each morning. Winds associated with this trough may increase to 20 kt during the overnight hours with seas briefly reaching 5 to 6 ft. A strong tropical wave is passing south of Puerto Rico into the central Caribbean. Buoy observations and scatterometer data show fresh to strong easterly winds associated with the wave across the central and eastern Caribbean, with seas building to 7-8 ft. Fresh to strong winds will push into the Windward Passage ahead of the wave axis. Persistent high pressure north of the region will support fresh to occasionally strong trade winds over most of the central Caribbean the next several days. The ridge north of the region will retreat eastward early next week, which will help to decrease trades temporarily over the central and eastern portion of the basin. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A high pressure ridge roughly along 30N extends from the central Atlantic to northern Florida. Scatterometer data and surface obs show gentle anticyclonic winds over most of the region, with seas of 4-6 ft. A tropical wave passing through the Greater Antilles during the next 24-36 hours will enhance trade winds in southern waters, with strong winds expected to pulse off Hispaniola and approaches to the Windward Passage through Friday. Strongest winds are expected during the afternoon and evening with seas occasionally to 8 ft. Winds and seas will diminish over southern waters this weekend. High pressure across the area will support gentle to moderate winds over the waters north of 24N, and moderate to fresh winds south of 24N, with seas 6 ft or less. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
