000 AGXX40 KNHC 311815 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 215 PM EDT Mon Jul 31 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Tropical Storm Emily has made landfall south of Tampa Florida, and a small area of winds and seas associated with the low will rapidly diminish near the central Florida coast through tonight. A weak stationary front extending across the central Gulf will transition to a trough Tue, then drift slowly north through Wed. The western extension of an Atlantic ridge will expand westward over the next day or two, and support light to gentle winds over most of the basin. By Wed, the ridge axis will shift northward, with moderate east to southeast winds developing across the southern Gulf. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A tropical wave extending south of Puerto Rico along 67W will move westward at about 15 kt across the Caribbean through Thu. Another tropical wave in central Atlantic along 45W will reach the Lesser Antilles Wed. Fresh trade winds and building seas associated with this wave will spread westward into the tropical north Atlantic through Tue night. Model guidance indicates winds and seas will subside Wed and Thu as the wave continues westward into the central Caribbean. Expect fresh to strong NE winds near the southern coast of Hispaniola beginning late Tue night, with strong pulses possible through Fri evening. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... The small core of Tropical Storm Emily has moved inland SE of Tampa Florida, and is expected to weaken tonight as it moves ENE across the Florida peninsula, then reintensify after moving into the Atlantic Tue and Wed east of Northern Florida. Model guidance indicates Emily will remain a small feature with little effect expected, except within 60-75 nm of the cyclone center. As Emily moves NE of the area, a trailing trough along an old stationary front will persist across the waters east of N Florida through Wed night. A ridge extending from high pressure centered in the mid-Atlantic near 32N43W to the Florida Keys will dominate the remainder of the forecast area the next several days. Moderate to fresh trade winds will prevail S of the ridge, except for a small area of fresh to strong winds during late afternoon and evening along the N coast of Hispaniola, occasionally spreading into the Windward Passage. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
