000 AGXX40 KNHC 251810 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 210 PM EDT Tue Jul 25 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Divergence aloft on the southern portion of an upper low centered over the western Gulf is supporting a few strong thunderstorms off the coast of Veracruz, with scattered moderate showers and thunderstorms elsewhere south of 25N. Persistent ridging across the northern Gulf of Mexico will maintain gentle winds and slight seas north of 22N through late week. A trough related to hot daytime temperatures over the northwest Yucatan will form each afternoon and move westward across the far southwest Gulf through the evening and overnight hours, enhancing winds fresh winds. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Ridging north of the area continues to support strong to near gale trade winds over the south central Caribbean, mainly off the coast of northeast Colombia and western Venezuela. Buoy observations and recent altimeter satellite data show seas of 10 to 12 ft in the south central Caribbean. Seas of 8 to 10 ft are noted elsewhere over the central and southwest Caribbean. Moderate trade winds are noted elsewhere. The winds and seas across the south central Caribbean will diminish slightly and shrink in coverage as the ridge weakens and a tropical wave move across the basin. This will leave the area of strong trade winds limited to the coastal areas of northeast Colombia and western Venezuela. In the tropical N Atlantic, moderate trades will prevail through the remainder of the week and through late week, along with 4 to 6 ft seas. A surge of fresh trades will follow the passage of a tropical wave early next week. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... Ridging extending from high pressure in the central Atlantic will support gentle to moderate winds north of 22N through Fri, with moderate to fresh trades south of 22N, pulsing briefly to strong winds north of Hispaniola this evening. South to southwest winds will increase off northeast Florida and north of Grand Bahama starting Fri, as troughing deepens over the Carolinas. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
