A ridge extending from the Atlantic across the Gulf will dominate the area. A weak high pressure of 1018 mb located over the NE Gulf is within the ridge. This system is maintaining mainly moderate to fresh southerly winds across the western Gulf, and light to gentle E to SE winds across the eastern Gulf, with light and variable winds over the NE Gulf due to the presence of the high pressure center. Little change in the weather pattern and marine conditions are expected through early next week as a ridge persists across the Gulf waters. The northern portion of a tropical wave is forecast to reach the Yucatan Peninsula late Sunday into early Monday then move across the far SW Gulf through through mid week. A thermal trough will develop during the evening hours over the Yucatan Peninsula before pushing offshore into the SW Gulf each night. A surge of fresh to occasionally strong winds will accompany this trough.
