000 AGXX40 KNHC 130752 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 352 AM EDT Tue Jun 13 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Clusters of showers and thunderstorms are ongoing over the far southwest Gulf along the Mexican coast, between Coatzacoalcos and Veracruz and over adjacent Gulf waters out to 60 nm offshore. This activity is on the northern edge of T.S. Calvin which has made landfall over the Pacific coast of Mexico in western Oaxaca. Strong southeast winds are noted in scatterometer data over the Bay of Campeche, and at buoy 42055 near 22N94W, with 5 to 7 ft seas. Calvin is expected to weaken and dissipate through Wednesday over southern Mexico, allowing periods of showers and thunderstorms to persist through late week. Winds and seas will diminish through today over the southwest Gulf. Elsewhere, weak ridging over the western Atlantic and southeast United States will support gentle to moderate breezes and slight seas over the eastern Gulf, and moderate to fresh breezes with 3 to 5 ft seas over the western Gulf, subsiding through Friday. Looking ahead, southeast winds will increase over the southwest Gulf by late Saturday ahead of a low pressure area expected to approach the region through northern Central America. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... Moderate to fresh winds persist across the south central Caribbean currently, reaching as high as 25 kt along and to the north of the ABC Islands. These winds follow a tropical wave moving through the central Caribbean, and will move across the southwest Caribbean through mid week. Seas are 6 to 8 ft in the south central Caribbean and 4 to 6 ft elsewhere east of 80W. Strong winds with 8 ft seas are ongoing over the Gulf of Honduras, but moderate to fresh winds persist elsewhere over the northwest Caribbean. The strong winds over the Gulf of Honduras will diminish later this morning, but may reappear tonight and again Wednesday night. Winds and seas will diminish farther east into Thursday as the high pressure north of the lifts farther to the north. By Friday, developing low pressure over Central America will move northward toward southern Mexico. This will allow southeast winds and seas to increase over the northwest Caribbean through late Saturday. Building high pressure over the western Atlantic will support moderate to fresh trade winds and 5 to 7 ft seas over much of the central and Eastern caribbean. Moderate to fresh trade winds will persist across the tropical north Atlantic waters west of 55W through the period, with seas of 6 to 8 ft through Wednesday, subsiding slightly thereafter. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... The subtropical ridge will build westward through Wed along 28N, then lift northward to 30N by late week. This will maintain gentle to moderate winds and slight seas north of 22N, and moderate to fresh trade winds south of 22N, pulsing to strong at night north of Hispaniola and near the approaches to the Windward Passage tonight.
