A cold front extends from the Florida Big Bend to 25N88W, then continues as a stationary front to N of Veracruz Mexico at 20N97W. Latest satellite-derived winds and seas along with ship, buoy, and CMAN data depict fresh to strong winds over the northeast Gulf, with moderate to fresh winds prevailing elsewhere over the SW Gulf. Weak high pressure is building over the NW Gulf where winds are light to gentle. The cold front will continue to shift eastward and eventually stall over the southeast Gulf on Friday. Active convection associated with the front has moved East into the Atlc. High pressure over the NW Gulf will slide east along the Northern Gulf Coast through Friday night. Thermal troughing will develop each day over the Yucatan and move W into the bay of Campeche during the overnight hours. Winds associated with each trough will be moderate to fresh through Sat, then become fresh to strong beginning on Sat night. A cold front moving S into Oklahoma and Texas will set the stage for return flow over the W Gulf Friday through Monday. Winds along the Texas Coast could become locally strong on Friday. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... A high pressure ridge extends across the southwest north Atlantic waters. Latest satellite-derived winds and seas along with ship, buoy, and CMAN data depict fresh to strong winds over the eastern half of the Caribbean. Moderate to fresh winds are evident over the Western Caribbean, while moderate winds are generally observed over the tropical north Atlantic. Seas are in the 7-10 ft range over the central Caribbean, 4-6 ft over the remainder of the Caribbean, and 5-6 ft over the tropical north Atlantic waters. High pressure over the Central Atlc will shift WSW closer to the area today before slowly retreating ENE through the weekend. This will bring an increase in winds and seas over the central Caribbean waters through the end of the week before decreasing through the weekend. Winds will pick back up next week as the high edges closer once again. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... High pressure centered close to Bermuda ridges WSW to Cuba. A strong cold front for this time of year is moving eastward from Florida. This has set up increasing SE to S return flow over the Northern and Central Bahamas. Latest satellite-derived winds and seas along with ship, buoy, and CMAN data depict fresh to strong winds over the northwest waters, moderate to fresh winds over the remainder of the northern waters and moderate winds prevail over the southern waters. The ridge will shift southward today then retreat eastward Friday. Near gale winds will prevail east of the front and N of 30N today, where the pressure gradient is tightest between the front and surface ridge. The northern part of the cold front will shift eastward, moving east of the area by Saturday. The southern part of the front will stall across the northern Bahamas Friday, then gradually dissipate through Saturday. High pressure will build in the wake of the front this weekend. High pressure will build east along 29N Friday through Sunday night, then merge with high pres over the Central Atlc Monday. Ridging from the high will extend WSW to the Northern Bahamas through Wednesday.
