000 AGXX40 KNHC 140628 MIMATS Marine Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 228 AM EDT Tue Mar 14 2017 Marine Weather Discussion for the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Tropical North Atlantic from 07N to 19N between 55W and 64W and the Southwest North Atlantic including the Bahamas ...GULF OF MEXICO... Low pressure is exiting the northeastern Gulf tonight and moving northeastward, dragging a cold front across the southern and eastern Gulf. Fresh to strong winds will continue over the northeast gulf near the low through the morning. Fresh to locally strong northerly winds behind the front will decrease over the western Gulf by tonight as high pressure builds north of the region. Fresh northerly winds will continue over the eastern Gulf through Wednesday. High pressure will become centered near the northeastern Gulf Thursday through Saturday, with gentle winds developing over the northern Gulf. The southern Gulf can expect moderate to fresh easterly winds during this time period, expect fresh to strong winds over the Bay of Campeche each night associated with a thermal trough. ...CARIBBEAN SEA AND TROPICAL N ATLANTIC FROM 07N TO 19N BETWEEN 55W AND 64W... High pressure over the central Atlantic will support mainly fresh northeast to east trades over the central and eastern Caribbean and the tropical Atlantic zones through Thursday. The exception will be strong winds that are expected to persist near the coast of northeast Colombia with seas to 8 ft. The high over the central Atlantic will weaken late this week which will allow the trades to decrease to around 15 kt over the eastern Caribbean and Atlantic zones over the upcoming weekend. Large trade wind induced swell will propagate over the tropical Atlantic waters throughout the week. A cold front will enter the northwestern Caribbean late tonight and will stall out from the windward Passage to Belize Wednesday night before dissipating by Thursday. High pressure building to the north of the front will support fresh to strong northeast winds across the northwestern Caribbean beginning Wednesday night, persisting through the end of the week. This high building north of the area will also help to maintain strong winds into the daytime hours north of the Colombia coast Thursday through Saturday, with near gale force winds developing each night Thursday night through Saturday night. ...SW N ATLANTIC INCLUDING THE BAHAMAS... A tightening pressure gradient between deepening low pressure crossing north Florida and high pressure over the northeastern Atlantic supports gale force winds over the northern waters this morning. These gale force winds are expected to prevail through this evening, with the gales ending from west to east with the passage of a cold front. A broken squall line emerging over the Florida east coast will continue to move eastward over our northwestern offshore waters zones through today and then our northeastern zones tonight. As the low lifts northeastward and north of our area later today, a cold front will cross the area. The front will reach from 31N73W to the Florida Straits this afternoon, then from 31N66W to the Windward Passage by Wednesday afternoon. The northern portion of the front will continue east of our area through Thursday, while the southern portion stalls out over the southeastern zones late this week. The gale winds will end over the northern waters tonight as the low lifts farther from the area. However, strong winds will still persist over the northern waters both east and west of the cold front into Thursday evening, with 8 to 14 ft swell covering the waters north of about 27N. Winds will diminish below 20 kt by Friday morning with lingering swell of 8 to 10 ft covering the northeast waters into Friday night. A tight pressure gradient between the stationary front over the southeast waters and high pressure over the southeastern U.S. Friday through Saturday will support strong northeast winds and seas to 9 ft over the southeastern zones. $$ .WARNINGS...Any changes impacting coastal NWS offices will be coordinated through AWIPS II Collaboration Chat, or by telephone: .GULF OF MEXICO...
