DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Otis was located
near latitude 17.0 North, longitude 127.3 West. Otis is moving
toward the north near 5 mph (7 km/h). A slow northward or
north-northwestward motion is expected during the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds have significantly increased to near 105 mph
(165 km/h) with higher gusts.  Some additional strengthening is
possible through tonight, but weakening should commence on Monday.

Otis is a very compact system.  Hurricane-force winds extend outward
up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force
winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 973 mb (28.74 inches).
