DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Irwin was located
near latitude 15.6 North, longitude 119.4 West.  Irwin is moving
toward the west near 6 mph (9 km/h).  A slow west-southwestward to
southwestward motion is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 mph (130 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Little change in intensity is forecast during
the next 24 hours, but some weakening could begin by late Wednesday
and Wednesday night.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the
center, and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 986 mb (29.12 inches).
