DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 13.7 North, longitude 130.9 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west-northwest near 10 mph (17 km/h). The
hurricane is expected to move toward the west-northwest or northwest
at about the same rate of speed for the next two days.

Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Fernanda is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson
Hurricane Wind Scale.  Steady weakening is forecast during the next
48 hours.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles
(185 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 954 mb (28.17 inches).
