DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 13.0 North, longitude 129.2 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west-northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this
general heading with a decrease in forward speed is expected during
the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 120 mph (195 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Fernanda is a category 3 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Continued gradual weakening is
forecast during the next 48 hours.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles
(165 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 mb (28.35 inches).
