DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Fernanda was located
near latitude 10.8 North, longitude 121.8 West. Fernanda is moving
toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h). A gradual turn toward the
west-northwest is expected later today, and this motion should
continue through Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds remain near 145 mph (230 km/h) with
higher gusts.  Fernanda is a category 4 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some additional strengthening
is possible today.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles
(110 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 948 mb (28.00 inches).
