DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Fernanda was located near latitude 10.8 North, longitude 121.8 West. Fernanda is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h). A gradual turn toward the west-northwest is expected later today, and this motion should continue through Sunday. Maximum sustained winds remain near 145 mph (230 km/h) with higher gusts. Fernanda is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some additional strengthening is possible today. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 948 mb (28.00 inches).
