SUMMARY OF 800 PM PDT...0300 UTC...INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------- LOCATION...10.7N 120.8W ABOUT 1105 MI...1780 KM SW OF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BAJA CALIFORNIA MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS...145 MPH...230 KM/H PRESENT MOVEMENT...W OR 270 DEGREES AT 12 MPH...19 KM/H MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE...947 MB...27.97 INCHES WATCHES AND WARNINGS -------------------- There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Fernanda was located near latitude 10.7 North, longitude 120.8 West. Fernanda is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h). A turn toward the west-northwest is expected on Saturday, and this motion is expected to continue on Sunday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 145 mph (230 km/h) with higher gusts. Fernanda is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some additional strengthening is possible tonight. After that, little change in strength is expected through Sunday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 947 mb (27.97 inches).
