DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 10.7 North, longitude 120.8 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h).  A turn toward the
west-northwest is expected on Saturday, and this motion is expected
to continue on Sunday.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 145 mph (230 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Fernanda is a category 4 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some additional strengthening
is possible tonight.  After that, little change in strength is
expected through Sunday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles
(110 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 947 mb (27.97 inches).
