DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fernanda was
located near latitude 11.0 North, longitude 117.9 West. Fernanda is
moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion is
expected to continue during the next 2 days. On this track,
Fernanda will continue to move over the open waters of the eastern
North Pacific during the next few days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 100 mph (155 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Some additional strengthening is anticipated
during the next 48 hours, and Fernanda is likely to become a major
hurricane later today.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles
(95 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 975 mb (28.80 inches).
