SUMMARY OF WATCHES AND WARNINGS IN EFFECT: A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for... * The Pacific coast of Mexico from Salina Cruz to Puerto Escondido A Tropical Storm Warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area, in this case within the next 12 hours. For storm information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your national meteorological service. DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK ------------------------------ At 1000 AM CDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Two-E was located near latitude 15.4 North, longitude 97.1 West. The depression is moving toward the north-northeast near 6 mph (9 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue through Friday. On the forecast track, the center of the tropical cyclone is expected to move inland across the state of Oaxaca later today or tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. The depression could still become a tropical storm before landfall. After landfall, the system is expected to weaken and dissipate on Friday over the mountains if southeastern Mexico. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- RAINFALL: The depression is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 8 to 12 inches across the Mexican state of Oaxaca with isolated maximum totals of 20 inches possible. Lighter amounts in the 1 to 3 inch range are possible across the southern portion of the Mexican state of Veracruz. This rainfall is likely to produce life-threatening flash floods and mudslides.
