DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Orlene was located
near latitude 20.1 North, longitude 122.0 West.  Orlene is moving
toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this general motion with a
slight increase in forward speed is expected over the next 48 hours.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 80 mph (130 km/h)
with higher gusts.  A gradual weakening trend is expected to begin
by early Friday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 80 miles
(130 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches).
