DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 AM PDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Orlene was located
near latitude 19.2 North, longitude 118.9 West. Orlene is moving
toward the north near 5 mph (7 km/h), and this general motion with
a reduction in forward speed is expected this morning.  A northward
or north-northwestward drift is expected later today and tonight.
A turn toward the west at a faster forward speed is expected on
Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Gradual weakening is forecast during the next couple of
days.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles
(150 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 971 mb (28.68 inches).
