DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Orlene was located
near latitude 18.7 North, longitude 119.1 West. Orlene is moving
toward the north near 6 mph (9 km/h), and this general motion with
some reduction in forward speed is expected tonight. A northward or
north-northwestward drift is expected on Tuesday, followed by a
turn toward the west on Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Additional slow weakening is expected during the next
couple of days.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles
(205 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 971 mb (28.68 inches).
