DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Orlene was
located near latitude 16.6 North, longitude 118.3 West. Orlene is
moving toward the northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h).  A turn toward
the north-northwest and then north with a significant decrease in
forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph (100 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Additional strengthening is forecast during the
next 48 hours, and Orlene is expected to become a hurricane by
Monday morning.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1001 mb (29.56 inches).
