DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Orlene was
located near latitude 16.3 North, longitude 117.7 West.  Orlene is
moving toward the northwest near 14 mph (22 km/h).  A turn toward
the north-northwest and then north with a significant decrease in
forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 50 mph (85 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Additional strengthening is forecast during
the next 48 hours, and Orlene is expected to become a hurricane on
Monday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km)
from the center.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb (29.62 inches).
