DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Georgette was
located near latitude 17.5 North, longitude 127.3 West.  Georgette
is moving toward the northwest near 9 mph (15 km/h) and this motion
is expected to continue through Wednesday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 120 mph (195 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Georgette is a category 3 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Rapid weakening is forecast
during the next 48 hours, and Georgette is forecast to weaken to a
tropical storm by early Wednesday.

Georgette is a small hurricane.  Hurricane-force winds extend
outward up to 10 miles (20 km) from the center and tropical-storm-
force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 961 mb (28.38 inches).
