DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 300 PM MDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located
near latitude 18.3 North, longitude 112.7 West.  Linda is moving
toward the northwest near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this general motion
is expected to continue during the next day or two.

Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher
gusts.  Some additional strengthening is possible tonight, but
weakening is likely to begin on Tuesday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the
center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles
(185 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 969 mb (28.62 inches).


HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

SURF:  Swells generated by Linda are beginning to affect the coast
of the southern portion of the Baja California peninsula.  These
swells are expected to spread northward during the next couple of
days and are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current
conditions.  Please consult products from your local weather office.
