DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located
near latitude 16.7 North, longitude 111.4 West.  Linda is moving
toward the northwest near 14 mph (22 km/h).  This general motion
with a decrease in forward speed is expected during the next couple
of days.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h)
with higher gusts.  Additional strengthening is expected and Linda
is forecast to become a major hurricane by tonight.  Weakening is
expected to begin on Tuesday.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 105 miles
(165 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 982 mb (29.00 inches).
