HURRICANES...AND 1 MAJOR HURRICANE. IN TERMS OF ACCUMULATED CYCLONE
ENERGY...ACE...WHICH MEASURES THE COMBINED STRENGTH AND DURATION OF
TROPICAL STORMS AND HURRICANES...TROPICAL CYCLONE ACTIVITY IN
AUGUST WAS ABOUT 80 PERCENT OF THE LONG-TERM MEAN.
