A HURRICANE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM BELIZE CITY NORTHWARD TO
CANCUN...AND A TROPICAL STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF
COASTAL BELIZE...AND FOR THE EAST COAST OF THE YUCATAN PENINSULA
FROM THE MEXICO/BELIZE BORDER NORTHWARD TO CANCUN.  A TROPICAL STORM
WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR THE GULF COAST OF THE YUCATAN PENINSULA
FROM PROGRESO TO CARMEN.
 
AT 1 AM CDT...0600Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM CHANTAL WAS
LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 18.4 NORTH...LONGITUDE 88.4 WEST...OR JUST
SOUTH OF CHETUMAL MEXICO.

CHANTAL IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 8 MPH...13 KM/HR.  
ALTHOUGH CHANTAL HAS SLOWED DOWN DURING THE PAST 3 HOURS...A GENERAL 
WEST-NORTHWEST MOTION AT A SLIGHTLY FASTER SPEED IS EXPECTED TO 
RESUME LATER THIS MORNING.  ON THIS TRACK...CHANTAL WOULD EMERGE 
INTO THE SOUTHERN GULF OF MEXICO LATE TODAY OR EARLY WEDNESDAY.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR  65 MPH...105 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS.  CHANTAL IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO WEAKEN AS IT CROSSES THE 
YUCATAN PENINSULA TODAY.
 
TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 200 MILES
...325 KM...MAINLY TO THE NORTHEAST AND EAST OF THE CENTER.
 
THE ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 1003 MB...29.62 INCHES.

ALTHOUGH THE CENTER HAS MOVED INLAND...MOST OF THE HEAVIEST
RAINS AND STRONGEST WINDS NORTH AND EAST OF THE CENTER WILL NOT 
MOVE ONSHORE FOR ANOTHER 6 TO 9 HOURS.

STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 2 TO 3 FEET...ACCOMPANIED BY BATTERING
WAVES...IS POSSIBLE NEAR AND NORTH OF THE BELIZE/MEXICO BORDER 
TODAY. IN ADDITION...STORM SURGE FLOODING OF 1 TO 2 FEET IS POSSIBLE 
ALONG PORTIONS OF THE GULF COAST OF YUCATAN BY LATE TODAY AND ON 
WEDNESDAY.

RAINFALL TOTALS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES...WITH ISOLATED HIGHER
AMOUNTS...ARE POSSIBLE ALONG AND NEAR THE PATH OF CHANTAL.
